Demystifying Low Back Pain: 2.5-Hour Workshop

11am - 1.30pm Los Angeles/2pm - 4.30pm New York/7pm - 9.30pm London

The replay will also be available for 30 days for everyone who registers.

$65 USD (approx. £50 GBP)

Low back pain (LBP) is considered a major public health problem, with the lifetime prevalence reported as high as 84%. In western countries, between 4% and 33% of the adult population experience LBP at any given point in time. Approximately 20% of LBP cases become persistent, and about 10% of the cases progress to a disability.

As a yoga teacher it’s very likely that you either already teach someone with persistent LBP or will teach someone with persistent LBP in the very near future.

It can be overwhelming to try to navigate all the conflicting information out there about this vast topic. Is physical activity, including yoga, appropriate for people who have LBP? Can yoga alleviate LBP? How can yoga teachers best offer support here?

During this 2.5-hour workshop we will:

·      Explore the anatomy and physiology of the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joints

·      Gain a contemporary, evidence-based understanding of pain science

·      Apply the biopsychosocial model to LBP

·      Discuss whether tight hamstrings, weak glutes, weak core or poor posture can cause LBP

·      Look at current treatment guidelines for LBP

·      Discuss common spinal surgeries and how these might impact movement

·      Explore the research that looks at how yoga can impact LBP

·      Highlight top tips for teaching yoga to a student with LBP

There will be time for Q&A.

A pdf of the presentation will be available to download after the workshop.

The course is accredited by Yoga Alliance (US) and Yoga Alliance Professionals (UK).

The replay will also be available for 30 days for everyone who registers.
