The number of people affected by osteoporosis is large (nearly 13% of adults aged 50 years and older) and is expected to continue to grow. As a yoga teacher it’s very likely that you either already teach someone with osteoporosis or will teach someone with osteoporosis in the near future.

It’s overwhelming to try to navigate all the conflicting information out there about this vast topic. Is yoga safe for this group of people? Can practicing yoga reverse bone loss?

During the 2-hour workshop we will:

•        Explore bone biology and how bone mass changes throughout our life cycle

•        Define osteoporosis and look at how it is diagnosed

•        Look at treatment options for osteoporosis

•        Discuss the current physical activity guidelines for people with osteoporosis

•        Explore whether yoga is safe for people with osteoporosis

•        Highlight top tips for teaching yoga to a student with osteoporosis

•        Discuss whether yoga alone can prevent/reverse osteoporosis

•        Critique the paper ‘Twelve-Minute Daily Yoga Regimen Reverses Osteoporotic Bone Loss’ by Lu et al (2016)

There will be time for Q&A.

The course is accredited by Yoga Alliance (US) and Yoga Alliance Professionals (UK).
